Venue: National Central University, Taoyuan

Call for Papers

The Deadline has been extended to 28th August 2020

Taiwan Shakespeare Association is delighted to announce the Call for Papers for the 2021 international and interdisciplinary conference, jointly hosted with Kunqu Opera Museum, National Central University. This conference will be held at National Central University, Taoyuan, on both 21st(Friday) and 22nd(Saturday) May 2021.

As one of the most important playwrights and poets of the Renaissance period, Shakespeare incorporated the core values of the Renaissance and earlier periods to the theatrical world and has a lasting influence on many of his contemporaries and successors in the field of literature. His influence continued to strengthen outside England with his works continuously translated, performed, and adapted to reflect concerns in other cultures and of later periods. Shakespeare’s works remain a site of negotiation between different regions and peoples, for there is profound contemporaneity at the heart of his works that speaks to subsequent generation’s engagements with Shakespeare. The conference seeks to address the manifold challenges and potentials of both Kunqu and Shakespeare in contemporary culture from both retrospective and forward-looking perspectives.

This conference aims to provide a friendly and stimulating forum in which scholars can present their work, bring together innovative ideas and trends, as well as network with other scholars in the field. We sincerely invite proposals from scholars to participate in this conference.
