Shakespeare writes about disease and illness in many ways. He can have John of Gaunt, on his death bed, be a prophet about England or he can have Hamlet discuss how Denmark is sick and diseased. The public and private are mingled in Shakespeare's tragedies (Lady Macbeth goes mad) or the histories (Falstaff grows sick and dies).
